Ladies! Here’s such a simple change you could make to your cleansing and make-up routines; swap from single-use, disposable face wipes (currently containing plastic in many cases) or cotton wool rounds, to those that are made from fabric and therefore reusable and washable. If you are clever with a needle, could you make your own? Cotton, bamboo, cotton velour – black (for mascara?), white, blue, patterned, square, round – from the plain to the just plain cute, they are widely available, especially at craft fairs!
However, if you are still not convinced and prefer to carry on with cotton wool pads that are disposable, then try to choose ones that are 100 per cent certified organic (even though the packaging will be single-use plastic), Bear in mind too, that many brands of cotton wool pads are frequently mixed with synthetic fibres to keep them in shape or to give a smoother touch; maybe not so eco-friendly.
Why not try a small pack of re-usables to help cut down waste in the environment. If you are already a convert, you’ll know they make very nice presents and … well … there’s always a birthday coming up!
