Will Mangnall be empty-chaired?

Laurie Taylor of Make Votes Matter in Totnes :

Our local Make Votes Matter (MVM) group has been working hard to develop something in the place of the ‘lobby’ about Electoral Reform which Totnes MP Anthony Mangnall (AM) has refused to have with us.

We have decided on a different zoom event where we will have a panel of MVM members answering questions from constituents with AM’s ’empty chair’ labelled if he does not accept our invitation to attend. The date and time is Thursday 11 March at 7pm for an hour…maybe a bit more.

The panel will have noted AM’s past comments on Electoral Reform and Proportional Representation and will provide his perspectives alongside others. We are aiming for as many people as possible to attend this event so that AM is fully aware of the strength of feeling about our unfair, out of date voting system among his constituents.

We are expecting to record it and send a copy to AM. We will report it in the local press. We are asking people to register by replying to this email and give their postcode to ensure everyone is a resident in this constituency. They will then be sent the zoom link to the meeting a day or two beforehand.

Email Totnes MVM to attend.

Editor’s comment: We are supportive of moves to reform our electoral system in the interests of fairer representation right across the political spectrum.
